Overview

Ahmad Sharmi Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and a member of the Lightwave Communication Research Group. His academic journey and professional career are deeply rooted in UTM, where he has earned multiple degrees and served in various roles.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering, which he obtained from UTM in May 2005, followed by a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering (Electrical - Electronics and Telecommunications) in May 2007. In November 2013, he earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Vinyl-Silica-Titania materials derived through the Sol-Gel method for optical waveguide devices.

Ahmad Sharmi’s career includes valuable experience as a full-time doctorate research student from July 2009 to June 2013 and a Tutor at UTM from May 2006 to October 2013. After completing his Ph.D., he became a Senior Lecturer in November 2013, a position he holds to this day. His research primarily focuses on optical materials and their applications in fiber optic sensors, an area in which he has made significant contributions.

He is also a Graduate Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (71022A) since May 2011.
